The International Baccalaureate (IB)

More than 5,000 schools so far have chosen to teach International Baccalaureate® (IB) programmes, with their unique academic rigour and their emphasis on students’ personal development.

5,000 schools all around the world

One of the great riches of Maria Montessori’s work is the development of a specific and scientifically studied material to maximize the development of the child.

The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

The student, guided by their desire to learn, chooses their work according to their sensitivity of the moment. The teacher is there to guide them in what to learn, but does not dictate how the student will achieve the result. A prepared and evolving atmosphere is essential to encourage concentration and attention.

The child therefore acquires from kindergarten vast knowledge, self-confidence, and learns to respect the others and their environment all the while being happy to go to school.

The International Baccalaureate and Montessori International Bordeaux

Students at International Baccalaureate® (IB) World Schools are given a unique education. They will:

  • be encouraged to think independently and drive their own learning
  • take part in programmes of education that can lead them to some of the highest ranking universities around the world
  • become more culturally aware, through the development of a second language
  • be able to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world.

The International Baccalaureate® (IB) offers many benefits to teachers who are given access to:

  • high quality professional development that encourages critical thinking, self-reflection and dedication to lifelong learning and continuous improvement
  • innovative and diverse education frameworks, unit planners, teaching resources and evaluation tools
  • certification and degree programmes offered by highly respected universities worldwide
  • a pedagogy known to produce students who are motivated to continue inquiry and lifelong learning, beyond school study.

Our International Montessori School of Bordeaux is an IB candidate school* for the Primary and Middle Years Programme. “This school is pursuing authorization as an IB World School. These are schools that share a common philosophy – a commitment to high quality, challenging, international education that we believe is important for our students.

*Only schools authorized by the IB Organisation can offer any of its three academic programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP) or the Diploma Programme (and in addition the IB Career-related Certificate). Candidate status gives no guarantee that authorization will be granted.
